The labor union’s board is its highest decision-making body. The responsibility starts with the congress in November 2024 and ends with the congress in November 2027. The board is responsible for the union’s strategic issues, including operations and finances. Board members work for the interests and on the issues of the entire union membership.

The national board consists of 15 members and 5 alternates. On the board there is an executive committee consisting of the board’s chair and first, second, and third vice-chairs. Members and alternate members of the national board attend about 5 national board meetings per year and, in addition, spend time reading documents before these meetings.

The national board has Swedish as its working language and requires the ability to follow discussions and read in documents in Swedish. However, board members may use English in their communications.

The position of national board member is primarily an unpaid volunteer position. However, as state employees, according to the collective agreement, members may use up to ten days’ leave with pay for central union assignments. Special conditions apply for board members who are not state employees.

The remunerations committee is appointed by the congress and makes decisions on payments to the union’s elected representatives. The committee consists of three members, one of whom is convener of the elections committee. For this assignment, it is advantageous to have long experience within the union as a whole and/or experience with SULF’s national board.
