Fixed-period employment

Employed until further notice, but not until later than

Contracts for fixed-term employment within the state often contain words employed until further notice, but not until later than followed by the final employment date. Such employment may be terminated by both employer and employee. This is different from the general rule that a fixed-term position may not be terminated. Employed until further notice, but not until later than is, in effect, a fixed-term position.
