Copyright for doctoral candidates
The provisions in the Swedish Copyright Act and the special rules regarding the intellectual property rights of academic staff apply to doctoral candidates in the same way as they apply to other teachers.
If you have produced material that meets the threshold of originality, you own the intellectual property rights to the material. If the material was produced by several people together, for example by you and your supervisor, you have joint copyright ownership.
What is joint copyright?
Joint copyright means that the copyright holders jointly own the rights to the material. This means that one party cannot use the material individually. A supervisor cannot use material for which there is joint copyright ownership without the approval of the other copyright holders, for example the doctoral candidate.
