Additional hours for part-time employees

Additional hours are working hours that part time employees may be ordered to work by their employer in addition to the normal working time stated in their employment contract.

When you have worked additional hours, you are entitled to compensation. If you are employed by the state, Villkorsavtal-T, terms and conditions agreement, stipulates that this compensation may take the form of time off or money, (additional hours pay).

Limitations

Villkorsavtal-T states that additional hours may not lead to a greater number of hours than a full-time position.

Employers must primarily schedule employees who agree voluntarily to work overtime. Employees who have acceptable reasons for not working overtime are able to decline to do so.

Employees who are on partial sick-leave, leave of absence or leave to care for children may not be requested by the employer to work additional hours.

Local regulations

In many cases, some or all of Villkorsavtal-T may have been replaced or supplemented by local collective agreements. You should therefore contact your Saco-S association/committee or the SULF organisation at your higher education institution for further information on any local regulations regarding additional working hours.
